The Roads and Drainage department is responsible for the maintenance and construction of all council owned roads and stormwater drainage systems. In the Whitsunday Regional Council area there are approximately 538km of sealed roads, 1258km of unsealed roads and 32 bridges to maintain. The roads and drainage department is also responsible for the maintenance of 99km of footways and 362km of kerbing in the Whitsunday Regional Council area. The maintenance of these assets are being carried out by our works depots in Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine.
The Roads and Drainage department is also responsible for the implementation of the annual capital budget which include the construction of new roads, stormwater drainage systems, footways and kerbing. Roads and Drainage is also responsible for the construction of new bridges if required in the region.
