Council endorsed the concept design for the new Flagstaff Hill building in October 2019 and recently completed the demolition of the old building in November 2019.
The concept plan is now in the detailed design phase and once finalised, will go to tender for construction.
Division 6 Councillor Mike Brunker said it was great news that we can now get the ball rolling and demolish the old building and start construction of the new facility.
“The concept plan will deliver a multi-purpose facility with a function area, a cafeteria style dining set-up and a cultural activities area.
“The building is designed to ensure all these areas make the most of the amazing 360 degree views that Flagstaff Hill is famous for.”
The new Flagstaff Hill and Conference Centre is jointly funded by Whitsunday Regional Council, the Queensland Government's Building Our Regions program and the joint Australian and Queensland Government Tourism Recovery Fund.
