This Easter school holidays Whitsunday Regional Council Libraries will be holding mini workshopscalled “Kids on Tour” sponsored by Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA).
Mayor Jennifer Whitney said QAGOMA is currently hosting an exhibition by Cai Guo-Qiang called “Falling Back to Earth” and as part of this exhibition workshops for regional areas have been developed to create art, linking with the work of Cai Guo-Qiang.
“The “Kids on Tour” craft workshops were developed by the artist Cai Guo-Qiang especially forchildren, and will be held at three Whitsunday Regional Council libraries during the Easterholidays,” she said.
“Cai is an internationally renowned artist whose art is inspired by his travels around the world.“He likes to use gunpowder and fireworks, invented hundreds of years ago in China, to createexplosion events in his art.
“Young visitors can take part by learning about and participating in Cai Guo-Qiang’s excitingworking methods to create their own exhibition.
“Families will have the opportunity to make and display objects and create spectacular multimedia gunpowder drawings and explosion events.
“These workshops offer a unique, educational and fun activity for kids during the school holidayperiod, I urge interested parents to find out more and get involved,” she said.
