Repair works will be underway soon to restore critical Council buildings and community facilities.
Insurance providers are starting to approve Whitsunday Regional Council’s claims after extensive damage caused by Cyclone Debbie in March.
The Airlie Beach Lagoon Refurbishment is on track to be finished by the end of the month, with major resurfacing of the pool nearly completed and landscaping works have begun.
Proserpine Swimming Pool and Collinsville Swimming Pool are next in line to be fixed up, with repair works expected to be completed and both pools reopened in time for the September school holidays.
Proserpine Pool’s damaged grandstand will also be replaced, however the grandstand will need to be constructed off-site and will not be reassembled on-site until after the pool has reopened.
Bowen’s 360 on Flagstaff Hill lookout will need major repairs, and a tender for local builders to apply for the works closed on the weekend. It is expected these works will begin within the next month and will take approximately 3 months to complete.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Andrew Willcox said the remaining Council buildings and damaged infrastructure needing repair were currently waiting for insurers to approve.
“Council has been working hard to keep the insurance process moving as quickly as possible, so we can continue the big job of rebuilding our community,” he said today.
“We want to get our public facilities up and running, so the community can start to get back to normal activities after a difficult year.”
Regular updates will be sent out over the coming months, and the Council website will continue to be updated as new information is received.
