An extensive signage claim by Whitsunday Regional Council is currently being assessed by insurers, to cover damage to nearly 1000 signs around the entire region.
Once approved, work can start immediately to replace or reinstate Council signage around the Whitsunday region.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said he expected the works could begin to replace the signs within the next two to three weeks.
“We have submitted two packages of signage claims to a total of 964 signs, including road signage and tourism signage,” he said.
“We are now just waiting for the completion of the assessment from our insurers, and approval to begin repairing and replacing these signs.”
“During the first few weeks after Cyclone Debbie we made temporary repairs to regulatory signs such as stop signs and give-way signs, however a permanent fix is needed to get our signage up to good standards.”
