Whitsunday Regional Council today approved Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants forArt Whitsunday Inc and Zonta Club of Bowen.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said Art Whitsunday Inc will receive $3,650 and Bowen Zonta will receive$4,478.
“The Art Whitsunday Inc grant was awarded under the building community cultural capacitycategory and will go towards the costs of empowering a professional visual art critic/judge,” shesaid.
“The funding will also go towards hosting an exhibition in the Whitsunday region for youth, amateur and professional visual artists.
“The Zonta Club of Bowen funding, under the contemporary collection/stories category, will gotowards the costs of printing a book documenting the historical significance of events of the first 20 years of the club.
“The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between Whitsunday Regional Council and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland to support local arts and culture.
“Local artists make applications for funding and their applications are assessed by a publiclyelected committee.
“Grants of up to $5,000 per applicant are awarded to artists under eight different categoriesincluding; developing regional skills, building community cultural capacity, interest-free arts loan,cultural tourism, contemporary collections/stories, regional partnerships, concept development or arts policy development and implementation
“Successful applicants are from a variety of arts disciplines and fund a diverse range of projectsincluding workshops, exhibitions, festivals and shows.
“The successful and long-running RADF program gives communities the flexibility to shape theirown arts and cultural priorities
