“The minor event application fee will be waived for the Candle Lighting Ceremony, being held at
Flagstafff Café in Bowen tonight, as part of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month,”
Mayor Whitney said.
“The Whitsunday Crisis and Counselling Service is holding the community event to help support
families that have been affected by domestic violence.
“Council is also donating $500 to support the Proserpine Meals on Wheels 40th Anniversary
Celebration being held on Saturday 10th May.
“At the celebrations 11 volunteers who have served 20 years or longer will be presented with a
small gift to thank them for their service.
“Council also today resolved to waive the major events application fee to assist the Whitsunday
Runners Club host the Airlie Beach Running Festival, to be held 20th July.
“The $600 application fee will be waived which will assist the hosting of the festival which attracts between 200 and 1000 competitors and supporters to the region.
“A proportion of the revenue raised from the event is donated to a nominated charity each year,
