Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to provide $5,000 in sponsorship to WhitsundaySailing Club for the 25th Anniversary Vision Survey Airlie Beach Race Week.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said she is pleased Council can provide funding for Airlie Beach Race Week, which is one of the biggest events in the region drawing thousands of competitors and spectators to Airlie Beach.
“Whitsunday Sailing Club requested the funding as they will be holding the 2014 AirlieBeach Race Week from 8-15th August,” she said.
“The event is now a feature in the Tourism and Events Queensland’s inaugural ‘WhitsundaySeason of Sailing’ campaign which will highlight the region as a sailing mecca for tourism.
“Airlie Beach Race Week will be broadcasted internationally and is a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful region and the fantastic sailing the region offers.
“An estimated 1300 participants will take park in the event and more than 1000 spectators andvisitors will be present at the event, this includes local, interstate and international visitors to theWhitsunday region.
“Council is pleased to support such a large tourism event for the region, which helps in the creation of new economic, social and cultural opportunities for all residents of the Whitsunday region,” she said.
