Whitsunday Regional Council 2014-15 Budget will be voted on by Council at a Special Council
Meeting at 9am Monday the 28th July, at the Proserpine Council Chambers.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the 2014-15 Budget was delivered to Councillors yesterday, as per the Local Government Act 2009 Councillors now have two weeks to consider the budget before it is voted on.
“The 2014-15 financial year Whitsunday Regional Council Budget has been developed
collaboratively with all Councillors over the last few months,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Since new Councillor John Atkinson has been on-board all Councillors have been working hard to formulate this Budget.
“The 2014-15 Budget is focused on paying down debt and restoring responsible financial
management for the future benefit of the whole Whitsundays region.
“Even with this focus, Council has worked hard to put measures in place to limit rate rises and also keep measures in place which will limit the financial burden on the community.
“We have worked hard to instil responsible financial management, which has been achieved by
Council making the difficult decisions around rate rises, gaining emergent funding, introducing a
levy and constraining expenditure, in the 2013-14 financial year.
“Following the adoption of the budget by Council, all organisations and members of the community will be invited to public information sessions with the Mayor, Councillors and Council officials on the 2014-15 Budget in each of the four townships in the Whitsunday region,” she said.
