All four Whitsunday Regional Libraries in Bowen, Cannonvale, Collinsville and Proserpine will becelebrating Children’s Book week from 16 - 22 August.
Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jenny Whitney said this is one of the biggest events on library calendars throughout Australia, with the theme this year being Connect to Reading.
“As part of the celebrations we are excited to have renowned children’s author and entertainerAndy Jones, visiting the region for the week,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Andy will present his very entertaining What's the Joke and Electric Music shows to over 1800school children across the region on behalf of Whitsunday Libraries.
“Thanks to local sponsor Cruise Whitsundays, children who visit the libraries during Book week will have the chance to win one of four fabulous prizes.
“On offer is a Great Barrier Reef family cruise for 2 adults and 2 children, and 3 runner up prizes of return family transfers to Daydream Island for 2 adults and 2 children.
“One lucky child from each library will win a prize that their whole family can enjoy. (Children need to be library members to enter).
“The libraries are currently holding a colouring competition for children 6 years and under. Therewill be prizes at each branch with winners announced on 20th August during Book week. Entryforms are available now at local branches.
“Storytime sessions during the week will include readings from Children’s Book Council ofAustralia’s 2014 shortlisted/award winning books and/or special craft activities for children.
“Group “getting to know your library” visits are also welcome,” she said.
