Whitsunday Regional Council has donated the $9,160.75 paid in landing fees for the 2013-14financial year back to the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS).
Mayor Jenny Whitney said Whitsunday Regional Council appreciates the great work done byRFDS and would like to donate their landing fees back to this wonderful organisation that doessuch a great job servicing our region.
“RFDS is a not-for-profit organisation which is dedicated to providing vital health care to anyone in Queensland and provides care for people in remote locations who would otherwise not haveaccess to health services,” she said.
“The RFDS utilise four aerodromes or airports in the Whitsunday region landing at WhitsundayCoast Airport in Proserpine along with Bowen, Collinsville and Mt Coolon aerodromes.
“As part of the 2014-15 Council Budget $100,000 is being spent on resurfacing the Bowenaerodrome apron which will ensure smoother transfers for patients and a more efficient RoyalFlying Doctors Service for the Bowen area.
“The RFDS’s emergency retrieval service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and hasexpanded to provide regular transfers of patients for life-saving surgery such as organ transplants and heart surgery, delivering critical support to those who live in regional, rural and remote areas.
“Although the RFDS receives some Federal and State Government funding, they rely onfundraising initiatives and donations from individuals, organisations and the community to helpraise $8 million each year to keep their aircraft flying and purchase vital medical equipment.
“Whitsunday Regional Council is pleased to be able to help the RFDS by donating back theirlanding fees for the last financial year.
“I know many people in the Whitsunday region are very thankful for their assistance after receiving care from them in the past year,” she said.
