Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to review Council’s reporting structure for the western section of the Local Government Area, as well as review the use of plant and equipment and the allocation of maintenance funding in the area.
Mayor Whitney said this follows a meeting on the 29th of August in Collinsville with graziers,agricultural producers, and the broader community in which road maintenance and general localissues in the Collinsville area were discussed.
“The aim of the review is to provide improved efficiencies and service delivery within the westernsection of the Local Government Area,” she said.
“The August meeting was well attended and productive, with more than 20 cattle stations and other local businesses being represented from the Collinsville and Mount Coolon areas.”
Some of the issues discussed included:
• Clarification of the difference between Council roads, State roads maintained under the RoadMaintenance Performance Contract (RMPC) and road works carried out under Natural DisasterRelief & Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).• The problems facing graziers and Council through lack of rainfall• Budget and other resource constraints• Partnership working• Responsibility for some roads where mining operations encroach on to roads
Mayor Whitney said there was an opportunity at the end of the meeting for graziers to discussspecific issues informally with individual Councillors and officers and exchange contact details.
“This was an inaugural meeting organised by Council, which was considered a worthwhilestakeholder engagement event for the Collinsville region,” she said.
“The results of the review are to be provided to Council as a brief on the 15th of October 2014 and will subsequently be provided at the following Council Meeting to be held in Bowen on the 22nd of October 2014 for resolution,” she said.
