Whitsunday Regional Libraries invites children to join in the adventure by participating in Summer Reading Club activities being delivered from 1 December 2014 to 31st January 2015.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the Summer Reading Club is a free online and in-library holidayprogram, run in partnership with State Library of Queensland and the Australian Library andInformation Association.
“This year, the Summer Reading Club is all about adventure, dodging danger, outwitting archnemeses and journeying beyond your wildest imagination is at the heart of the local SummerReading Club programming,” she said.
“To help launch our Summer Reading Club this year The Fabulous Lemondrops will perform their ‘Let’s Get Reading’ show at all four Whitsunday libraries on Monday 1st December and Tuesday 2nd December.
“There are lots of activities online too and the opportunity to win great prizes, from an onlinescavenger hunt with Encyclopaedia Britannica, to Word Hunting What Happens Next story writing with Nick Earls and Terry Whidborne, there is so much to do.
“The Summer Reading Club is delivered nationally, giving participants the opportunity to connectwith children right across the country.
Last year 34,576 Australian children registered for the Summer Reading Club and collectively read more than 230,000 books.
To join in the fun just register at any Whitsunday Regional Library or online at www.summerreadingclub.org.au
Children will receive an activity pack which includes an activity booklet and reading log to recordthe books they read during the holidays.
There will be prizes drawn at each branch for children who complete and return their reading logs by the 31 January. The draw will take place on the 4th February, 2015.
