Whitsunday Regional Council will be showcasing a range of business improvements when it hosts the inaugural Civica Queensland Local Government User Group Conference from the 4-5thDecember, at the Airlie Beach Hotel.
Representatives from eight Councils will be attending to hear how Whitsunday Regional Councilhas improved the way it does business and has reduced the cost of its corporate services.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said participants from a range of local governments in Queensland will beattending the conference.
“Whitsunday Regional Council is leading the way for local councils in streamlining and creatingoperational efficiencies in the administration of corporate services; the Information ServicesStrategic roadmap adopted by this council in late 2013 is helping council to do business better at a lower cost to ratepayers and improving customer service capabilities” she said.
“For example, a recent enhancement will automatically allocate customer service requests to ourlocal laws, parks and gardens and roads maintenance using Global Information Servicestechnology.
“Staff from Councils all over Queensland will travel to our region to learn how our Council isreshaping best practice in the use of technology, and that is a great credit to our CorporateServices staff.”
“By our Council hosting events such as this it brings money into the Whitsunday region, especially since those travelling for conferences tend to stay around for the weekend afterwards.
“At the beginning of 2015, Council will introduce online customer requests, online DevelopmentApplications, Tracking of Development Applications, Electronic forms as well as the ability to view and provide comments on the Priority Infrastructure Plan
“This conference will also be a great opportunity for staff from other Council’s to network with ourstaff and learn more about the integration of the software applications we use and recentimprovements that have been made.
“Council’s knowledge will be shared with participants from Bundaberg, Central Highlands, Cook,Douglas, Flinders, Gympie, Maranoa, and Western Downs Councils,” she said.
