At today’s Council meeting, Whitsunday Regional Council noted F1 Aviation Pty Ltd’s interest inconducting a proposed Whitsunday Air Racing and Air Show scheduled for 25-27 September,2015 at Whitsunday Coast Airport.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said F1 Aviation Pty Ltd has expressed an interest in conducting theproposed three day event at Whitsunday Coast Airport.
“The event would be an air show and air racing experience with a practice day scheduled for theFriday, following with public open days on the Saturday and Sunday,” she said.
“If this were to proceed it would be Australia’s second largest aviation event for 2015, after theAvalon Air Show, which is an exciting opportunity for the Whitsunday region.
“It is estimated that between 15,000 and 30,000 people would attend the three day event, whichwould directly contribute about $13 million to the local economy with many millions more in flow on effects for the local tourism industry.
“The event would also provide global exposure of the Whitsunday region, with the televisionbroadcast of the event expected to reach hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
“F1 Aviation Pty Ltd has spent three years searching the east coast of Australia for a suitablelocation for their air show and the Whitsunday Coast Airport is their best and preferred option,” she said.
