Whitsunday Regional Council yesterday resolved to establish housebound library services forBowen residents.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the Bowen Library housebound service will now deliver to members in their own home who are unable to physically access the library building.
“The establishment of this new service provides an opportunity for housebound Bowen residents to access a variety of books and other resources available for lending in the library building,” she said.
“Council is pleased to be able to help Bowen residents who are housebound due to illness ordisability get access to the great Whitsunday Regional Library services on offer.
“An initial survey of interested participants will be conducted with the assistance of local caregroups.
The service will comply with the Guidelines for Australian home library services initiated by ALIA2000 (Australian Library and Information Association) and the Queensland Public LibraryStandards and Guidelines Operational Services Standard August 2009.
This service is in line with the housebound service already provided in Proserpine andCannonvale/Airlie Beach area.
