Whitsunday Disaster Management Group is reminding local residents to be prepared for a cyclone or severe weather event as the path of Cyclone Nathan remains uncertain.
Chair of the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group and Whitsunday Regional Council MayorJenny Whitney said there’s no time like the present to ensure your emergency kit is stocked andyou have assessed your evacuation options.
“The latest advice from the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is that the impact of Cyclone Nathan still remains very uncertain, but could cross the Queensland coast later in the week or over theweekend,” she said.
“The BoM currently has the cyclone intensifying over the next couple of days to a Category 3system, they have also emphasised that this system is particularly unpredictable at this stage and its potential forecast track covers a large area of the Coral Sea.
“Whitsunday residents are reminded to stock your emergency kits with all the essentials, assessyour evacuation options if needed, fill your cars with petrol and get cash out of the bank.
“Now is also a good time to check if you live in a storm surge zone.
“There is loads of information available for you about how to prepare and what to do during asevere weather event on Council’s website and Facebook page,” she said.
