Whitsunday Regional Council today celebrated 10 years of Jetstar flying to Whitsunday CoastAirport with the visit of Jetstar Chief Executive Officer David Hall to the Whitsunday region.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said over the 10 years Jetstar have been operating from Whitsunday Coast Airport more than 1 million passengers have flown in and out of the Whitsunday Coast Airport on a Jetstar plane.
“Jetstar have been a great airline partner at Whitsunday Coast Airport and have helped contribute to the growth of the tourism industry in the Whitsunday region and Council looks forward to continuing to build their relationship with Jetstar in the future,” she said.
“While in town Mr Hall will meet with members of the local tourism industry to talk about tourismopportunities in the region and also hear about the strategic direction of the Whitsunday CoastAirport.”
Jetstar Australia and New Zealand CEO David Hall said he was pleased to be in town to celebrate an historic milestone.
"The Whitsunday Coast Airport is one of a select group of airports we've flown in and out of since day one," Mr Hall said.
"We know our customers love the many and varied attractions on offer in the Whitsundays andwe're delighted to have contributed to the local tourism industry over the past 10 years."While in town Mr Hall gifted $1,000 in flight vouchers to the Cannonvale Cannons Swimming Club.
"We wanted to thank the community for their incredible support since our first flight in May 2004," Mr Hall added.
"Jetstar is all about making the world more accessible through low fares travel and we're sopleased that this small gift back to the community will help ensure local kids can compete in thestate swimming championships in Brisbane next month."
While in town Mr Hall also attended the official opening of the Airlie Beach Main Streetrevitalisation project.
Whitsunday Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Scott Waters said that the 10 yearcelebration caps off an excellent year for the airport with the following achievements:• October being the best month on record with in excess of 26,000 passengers passingthrough the airport• Introduction of direct Sydney flights in April• In May, the Airport achieved the best on time arrival and departure performance in Australia• The Whitsunday Coast Airport International Export Hub Project progressed in-conjunctionwith the State Government to master plan the entire airport site and providePriority Development Area status to across the site• First quarter results for the 2014/15 year achieved record results• Winning the Local Government Tourism and Business Award at this year's WhitsundayTourism and Business Awards• Maintaining capacity with all of our airline partners• Achieving the best monthly passenger number result on record in October 2014
