Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to waive the fees associated with eleven community events happening across the region.
Deputy Mayor, Cr Andrew Willcox said that it is encouraging to see a large number of local events being organised in our community.
“Council is pleased to support the wide range of community, sporting and cultural events happening in our towns; it’s great to see we have such an active community,” Cr Willcox said.
“Our vision is for a healthy and active community that actively promotes, participates and encourages participation in sport and recreation activities in the region, as set out in our Corporate Plan Whitsunday 2020,” Cr Willcox said.
“In addition, many of these events draw visitors to town and give a welcome boost to our local economy,” he said.
Council’s support today included waiving of various application, hire & licence fees associated with the following events:
• $88 hall hire fee for the Collinsville State High School’s Motivational Media Program held on 4 August 2015 at the Collinsville Community Centre.• $255 minor event application fee for the Town Square Concert held by the Bowen Christian Outreach Centre held on 7 August 2015• $255 minor event application fee for the Tour Duchenne Charity Cycling Event for families and children living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy on 4 September 2015 • $383 minor event application fee for the Bowen Tourism & Business charity event ‘Jazz on the Beach’ on 12 September 2015• $383.00 minor event application fee for the Parent Action Group to hold a Family Fun Day at Logan’s Adventure Playground in Cannonvale on 13 September 2015• $638.00 major event application fee for the Bowen Rev Heads Car Show on 10 October 2015• $638.00 major event application fee for the Bowen Triathlon on 10 & 11 October 2015• $383 minor event application fee for dance classes at the Bowen Soundshell on 14 November 2015• $447.00 application and licence fee for the weekly ‘Save the Children’ playgroup sessions held in Bowen, Collinsville and Scottville• $629 and $510 for two building application fees for the Proserpine Junior Sporting Complex to construct a machinery shed and extend the clubhouse• $510 each for two building application fees for the Collinsville Pit Pony Experience
Project Inc to construct a bronze pit pony structure and donor wall at Sonoma Park as well as the construction of a ‘selfie wall’.
By providing this funding the Whitsunday Regional Council is promoting the development of arts and cultural projects, activities and festivals in the Whitsunday region.
