A 1.829m high bronze replica pit pony being cast and installed at Collinsville’s Sonoma Park will bejust one of the elements of a new Pit Pony experience being developed for the township ofCollinsville.
A progress report tabled at Council’s Ordinary Meeting in Bowen today, highlighted a range of Pitt Pony themed activities being developed by the community, for the community, including:
• The casting of an 18 hh (1829 mm) bronze Pit Pony Statue• Installation of the statue in Sonoma Park Collinsville• Donor Wall bearing the names of all who contributed financially to the project• Publication of a book “Helen and the Pit Ponies”• 3-D printed models of the Pit Pony• The development of a Pit Pony ‘brand’ to increase tourism benefits
Whitsunday Regional Council had earlier allotted the sum of $50,000 to the Collinsville Pit PonyExperience Project as part of the total $100,000 Entry Statement Plan funding allocation beingoverseen by the Collinsville Business Women’s Group.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the Collinsville Pit Pony Experience is a unique way for Collinsville tocelebrate their rich mining history and attract tourists to the town.
“Collinsville Business Women’s Group approached Council requesting support for the Collinsville Pit Pony Experience at Council’s ordinary meeting on February 25,
“Since that time a passionate and dedicated group of people lead by the Collinsville BusinessWomen’s Group have taken a vision and created something meaningful and enduring,” MayorWhitney said.
“I commend the Collinsville Women’s Group, the Collinsville Lions Club, the retired miners, theCollinsville State High school and the Collinsville Pensioners League for their efforts in bringing the project to this stage,”
“We have been advised today that the group anticipate that the installation of the bronze Pit Pony will occur before the end of October,”
“Council is pleased to be able to support this great community project which is garnering supportfrom all over Australia and uniting the town of Collinsville.
“The Collinsville Pit Pony Experience celebrates the rich history of the town of Collinsville andprovides a unique tourism experience.” she said.
