Whitsunday Regional Council today resolved to seek Expressions of Interest (EOI) for a JointVenture investment in the Whitsunday Coast Airport at Proserpine, its related land bank andassociated aerodromes at Bowen and Collinsville.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said that Council’s vision for the Whitsunday Coast Airport was to develop a world class aviation facility, focused on servicing the future growth of the region.
“A significant opportunity exists for the Airport to become an integrated transport and logistics hub incorporating road, rail and air transport.
“This hub would deliver to the region, the infrastructure required to facilitate growth not only to the tourism industry, but to our mining and agriculture sectors as well,” Mayor Whitney said.
Council will be undertaking an extensive and broad-based consultation program with theWhitsunday community prior to any decisions being made on the future development of the Airport.
As part of the initial stage of consultation, representatives from Council will be holding formalconsultation sessions as well as making time available for informal discussions.

Public displays showing detailed information on the potential development opportunities will beavailable at Whitsunday Regional Council libraries and Customer Service Centres across theregion from Tuesday 15th September.
