Council today resolved to waive the application fee to assist the Whitsunday Crisis and Counselling Service to host the DV Candle Lighting Ceremony being held at the AirlieBeach Market Place on Friday 30 October 2015 from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said that $383 in fees waived by Council will help support the ceremonywhich is a National Day to honour women, children and men who have died as a result of domestic and family violence.
“On behalf of the Whitsunday Regional Council I would like to acknowledge the great work that the Whitsunday Crisis and Counselling Service do for the community, in raising awareness toward domestic and family violence,”
“The DV Candle Lighting Ceremony offers our community a way to show their support for thosewho are going through domestic or family violence,
“Lighting candles in memory of those who have lost their lives as a result of Domestic or familyViolence is a public gesture to the families and the community that we will not give up our fight toend these most preventable of deaths."
