Whitsunday Regional Council has resolved to start work on developing a local plan relating to theBowen Marina following feedback from the community during the draft planning schemeconsultation.
The community have identified that they would like to see a greater mix of uses in the marinaincluding retail, commercial and residential components in addition to the existing mix ofbusinesses operating there.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said that the application of a local plan incorporating all facets of businessgives certainty to the community of Bowen regarding the future development of the marina and its relationship to the surrounding area.
“Having a planning scheme which addresses the full potential of this facility will encourageinvestment and be a boost for the many industries in and around this marina precinct,
“A plan that incorporates all of the functions of a vibrant marina precinct is a great investmentattraction tool and I look forward to input from a range of stakeholders including owners.” MayorJenny Whitney said.
Whitsunday Regional Council will be working in conjunction with stakeholders in the marina, withthe Bowen community through ongoing public consultation.
