Whitsunday Regional Council in conjunction with the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group (WDMG) is encouraging residents to get a copy of the Emergency Action Guide that is available from Customer Service Centres and Libraries across the region.
Mayor and Chair of the WDMG, Jenny Whitney said the Emergency Action Guide aims to provide education and public awareness for residents and visitors to the area.
“The guide will assist in preparation for, response to and recover from disaster events likely to affect our region,” Mayor Whitney said.
“I encourage each household to make sure they have a copy of the Emergency Action Guide in readiness for the impending cyclone season,
“Since 2010, half of the cyclones that have crossed the east coast of Australia have crossed through the Whitsunday region. Every person in the Whitsundays should consider their risks and prepare prior to the cyclone season. “
The free Emergency Action Guide is available now at all Customer Service Centres and Libraries throughout the region and on Council’s website
To keep up to date with information relating to current disaster events, residents are encouraged to ‘Like’ the Whitsunday Disaster and Emergency Information Facebook page which will provide a direct link to information from the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group.The cyclone season officially commences on 1 November each year.
