Ahead of the local government elections due to be held on 19 March 2016, the Department of Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning is holding a series of free information sessions for intending candidates.
Whitsunday Regional Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Barry Omundson said that the information sessions will provide detailed information about becoming a Mayor or Councillor.
“Working in local government has both its challenges and rewards; anyone interested in representing their community should take advantage of the free information session provided by the Queensland Government,” Mr Omundson said.
“Being an elected representative involves many responsibilities and a sound knowledge of the Local Government Act. Potential candidates now have the opportunity to find out what’s involved and what to expect.”
The Queensland Government have announced two information sessions for the region as follows:
• Monday 2 November from 5pm – 7pm at the Bowen PCYC• Tuesday 3 November from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Palm House Function Room, Cannonvale
