Australia Day is a day for all Australians; to celebrate what makes us great, to consider wherewe've come from, where we are now and what kind of a future we want to build together.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said Australia Day celebrations are a fun way to celebrate our heritage and to come together as a nation and enjoy what's great about Australia and being Australian.
“This year is also the celebration of a significant milestone for all Australians – the 65th anniversary of Australian citizenship,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Across the Whitsunday region we will welcome 32 people from 9 countries to officially join theAustralian family in ceremonies held in Proserpine, Collinsville and Bowen,” she said.
“Australia Day is the most popular day to become a citizen, with more than 17,000 peopleexpected to become citizens at about 430 special ceremonies across the nation,” she said.
