Whitsunday Regional Council has welcomed the latest Domestic Aviation Activity Statistical Report, which has revealed Whitsunday Coast Airport as the nation’s fastest growing regional airport.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the report highlights Whitsunday Coast Airport’s strong growth potential.
“Of the nation’s top 50 regional airports, Whitsunday Coast Airport has recorded the strongest growth over the past year, with its monthly passenger movements increasing by 25.9 per cent since 2014,” Mayor Whitney said.
“Whitsunday Coast Airport is a terrific community asset, and it’s fantastic that we are punching above our weight and outperforming other regional Queensland airports such as Mackay, Cairns and Rockhampton, as well as those in Hobart and Darwin,” she said.
“Our local airport has incredible growth potential, and I’m very pleased that the Australian Government now recognises Whitsunday Coast Airport as the fastest growing regional airport in the nation.”
The Domestic Aviation Activity Statistic Report is published by the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development each year.
