Whitsunday Regional Council will close the Bowen Water Park to replace the defective soft fallbase due to its poor condition and associated safety concerns.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said that previous remedial works to correct the soft fall issues hadbeen undertaken within the original contract however these had failed to provide an adequatesolution.
“Council sought quotes in February 2016 from experienced companies with a proven trackrecord in the design, supply and installation of soft fall,” Cr Willcox said.
“The works have been scheduled to commence on Monday, 11 April as to avoid the BowenWater Park being closed over the Easter school holiday period,” he said.
“The new soft fall is chlorine resistant, UV stable and colour fade resistant, so we expect it tobe a much safer and reliable surface for the Bowen Water Park.
“The Bowen Water Park is a tourism drawcard and it is vital for our region that we reach apositive outcome, once and for all.”
The park will close from Monday 11 April until Friday 22 April 2016.< ENDS >
