Whitsunday Regional Libraries will join schools, libraries, childcare centres and other organisations from across Australia for the 16th Annual National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) at 11.00am on Wednesday, 25 May 2016.
Division 2 Councillor Ron Petterson said Council is proud to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime, an initiative aimed at promoting youth literacy, every year.
“We are fortunate to welcome a special guest to each of the regional libraries to read the chosen book for this year’s NSS titled I Got This Hat,” Cr Petterson said.
“This is a great opportunity to take part in a special community event that promotes the fun and benefits of reading to our children.”
Details for each of the NSS events are below:
• Cannonvale Library – Local Airlie Beach musician Kieran McCarthy is the special guest reader and he will also hold a free concert for the children• Bowen Library – 2015 Gem of the Coral Coast Zoe Brackley will be special guest reader with support from the local emergency services and Council’s Local Laws staff• Collinsville Library – Representatives from the Collinsville Fire Service will be special guest readers followed by a close up look at the fire engine as a special treat• Proserpine Library – Representatives from the Queensland Police Service will be special guest readers.
The book chosen for this year, entitled ‘I Got This Hat’, is written by Jol and Kate Temple and illustrated by Jon Foye. NSS is held annually through the Australian Library and Information Association.
