Whitsunday Regional Council has approved over $70,000 in sponsorship to support major events which will attract visitors to the region and provide entertainment for local residents and families.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said that Council is committed to actively promoting the Whitsunday Region and enhancing its reputation as a premiere event and festival destination.
“Tourism and major events attract thousands of visitors to the Whitsunday Region, and inject millions of dollars into our local economy, each year,” Cr Willcox said.
“Council is committed to actively promoting our region and everything it has to offer, and we’re pleased to support those community events which are well attended by both locals and tourists alike,” he said.
“Our donations and sponsorship make a big difference to the running of these events and in many cases, without our funding, these events would not be possible.”
Events which have received funding from Council include:
• Bowen River Rodeo and Campdraft, 10-12 June 2016 - $20,000 cash• Bowen Offshore Super Boats, 23-24 July 2016 - $10,000 cash plus $5,000 in-kind support• Whitsunday Reef Festival, 5-14 August 2016 - $10,000 cash plus $5,000 in-kind support;• Airlie Beach Music Festival, 3-6 November 2016 - $20,000 cash plus $5,000 in-kind support
