The Cannonvale Library is opening its doors to host the JPs in the Community Program for two days each week commencing Tuesday 7 June 2016.
Division 2 Councillor Ron Petterson said that Council is pleased to offer the JPs in the Community Program a location to operate from after their previous location was lost in the recent fire at the Whitsunday Shopping Centre.
“Our local Justices of the Peace (JP) provide a valuable service to the Whitsunday community and it is important that we have a central location where residents can regularly and easily access this service,” Cr Petterson said.
“The signing sites are popular for residents who require general witnessing services, and Council is pleased to be able to support this program for the benefit of the community.”
Local JP Ivan Conway initiated the local JPs in the Community Program on behalf of the Department of Justice and Attorney General.
“On behalf of the JPs in the Community Program I am very appreciative to Council and the Cannonvale Library for providing us with a location from which to base our service,” Mr Conway said.
“This is an important program delivered by myself and other very dedicated JP’s who volunteer their time each week however we are continually seeking more JP’s to join the team.”
The JPs in the Community will be available at the Cannonvale Library on Tuesdays from 11:30am – 2:30pm and Thursdays from 1:30pm – 4:30pm.
