Whitsunday Regional Libraries will host First World War Treasures: A White Gloves Experience at the Proserpine and Bowen Libraries on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 June.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said that this workshop offers a unique opportunity for a hands-on look at some of the State Library of Queensland’s precious original First World War materials.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for our community to see first-hand a selection of First World War treasures such as letters, diaries and photographs,” Cr Willcox said.
“We are also fortunate to have a State Library of Queensland Collection Specialist to guide us through the stories and significance of the items and talk with residents about their own families’ World War stories,” he said.
“It is so important that youth of today commemorate and learn about our past and contribute to future Anzac Centenary commemorations, leaving a legacy for future generations to come.”
