Whitsunday Regional Council has today resolved to allocate $2000 for the Seniors Week celebrations in Bowen, Proserpine/Airlie Beach and Collinsville from 13 – 21 August 2016.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said that seniors are a very important part of the Whitsunday community and should be celebrated for their valuable contributions.
“This year’s Seniors Week theme titled ‘It’s on for young and old’ encourages the relationships between the youth of our community with our older residents,” Cr Willcox said.
“It should be recognised region-wide that our seniors contribute experience, skills and knowledges to our communities; that is something we should all celebrate and appreciate,” he said.
“I would like to extend my thanks to the volunteers and community groups who facilitate the Seniors Week events across the region each year.”
Council will be providing the following:
• Bowen - Council contribution of $500 to provide cake and morning tea supplies for the Sen-agers 60’s Revival event to be held at the Bowen PCYC on Tuesday 16 August.• Proserpine and Airlie Beach – Council contribution of $1000 to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre to subsidise Morning Melodies to $7 per person on Thursday 18 August. • Collinsville - Council contribution of $500 to provide a seniors themed morning tea at the Collinsville Community Centre on a date to be advised.
