Mayor of Whitsunday Regional Council Jennifer Whitney can confirm that the resignation ofDivision 2 Councillor, Kevin Collins has been received by the Chief Executive Officer.
“Cr Collins has made a decision to resign as a divisional Councillor and I respect him for thedecision he has made,” Mayor Whitney said.
“It has been a very challenging term of Council with Councillors having to make some of thetoughest unprecedented decisions to bring council back on track.
“I believe these decisions have taken their toll on both Council and Councillors.
“When standing for election I do not believe anyone was truly aware of the situation this councilhas found itself in.
“There has been little to no ability for any Councillor to deliver on election commitments, due toCouncil’s funding constraints as constantly we have been trying to achieve debt reduction.
“I would like to thank Cr Collins for the contribution he has made to Council and the Communityover the past 22 months and wish Cr Collins all of the very best for the future," she said.Councillor Collins' resignation takes affect from the 10th of March.
A By-Election will be held within 12 weeks of the resignation taking affect.
Council can confirm that the Chief Executive Officer, has already made contact with the Electoral Commission of Queensland and the Department of Local Government Community Recovery and Resilience.
The Chief Executive Officer will not be making a request to Minister Crisafulli for a postal vote.
