Whitsunday Regional Council Mayor Jennifer Whitney said as part of the development of theCorporate Plan, Council is coordinating a Youth Picture Competition for Primary School agedchildren across the region.
“The competition asks students to draw or create a picture showing how they think theWhitsundays will look in five years time,” Mayor Whitney said.
“It is all part of Council developing a five year Corporate Plan and vision for Council spanning from 2014 – 2019 called Whitsunday Regional Council 2020.
“We are currently undertaking a community consultation process asking Whitsunday residents toidentify what the important issues are for Council.
“The Youth Picture Competition will gauge what our next generation thinks about the future of our region.
“Council has contacted the principals of every primary school in the region asking if they want to be involved.
“If your school is interested in participating, children will need to lodge their entry (attached) withtheir relevant teacher to submit to Whitsunday Regional Council, no later than Monday 24 March2014.
The entries will be judged with schools of the winning and runner-up entries to be notifiedshortly after,” she said.
Prizes will be presented at a mutually convenient time to be arranged and will be presented to the following age groups:
• Years 1-3 – 1 winning prize, 1 runner-up prize• Years 4-5 – 1 winning prize, 1 runner-up prize• Years 6-7 – 1 winning prize, 1 runner-up prize
Please ensure all completed entries are posted to the Whitsunday Regional Council, PO Box 104, Proserpine or contact me to arrange collection.
Winning and runner-up entries will be displayed at the Whitsunday Regional Council Libraries and Customer Service Centres.
