The Airlie Beach Foreshore was announced the gold winner of the Tourism Attraction category at this year’s Whitsunday Tourism Awards.
Mayor Andrew Willcox attended the gala event at Cape Gloucester Resort and was thrilled to accept the award on behalf of the Whitsunday Regional Council.
“This is an outstanding achievement for all the Council staff involved in maintaining the Airlie Beach Foreshore; our Council takes immense pride in ensuring our parks and foreshores are kept looking beautiful for the thousands of local and tourists that experience this area each year,” Mayor Andrew Willcox said.
“The Airlie Beach Foreshore has a unique selling point with its combination of beautiful walking paths, iconic views and its close proximity to the main street of Airlie Beach,” he said.
“The Esplanade is the hub of Airlie Beach with connectivity to the Lions Airlie Beach Community Markets, the lagoon, playgrounds, ferry terminal, bars, restaurants and accommodation; it sells itself.
“I can proudly say that our employees take great pride in the work they undertake across our region to ensure that our residents and visitors can enjoy the outdoor areas and facilities that we are lucky enough to have here in the Whitsundays.
“I would like to offer my congratulations to all of the submitters and successful tourism award recipients as well as the team at Tourism Whitsundays for their facilitation of this year’s Tourism Awards Gala.”
