Whitsunday Regional Council is continuing its battle in the courts to shutdown unlawful camping activity at a property south of Bowen.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said council officers were aware that there is development taking place on private property known as Miowera without a lawful development approval.
“Council have issued the appropriate Show Cause and Enforcement Notices, and has now commenced proceedings in the Planning & Environment Court, seeking orders that the unlawful activity of operating a caravan park/camping ground be ceased.
“These legal proceedings are expected to take a number of months to resolve and Council are continually monitoring the situation.
“However, as frustrating as it is, at this stage council has its hands tied and is unable to lawfully shut down the camp ground, due to the current legal proceedings,” Mayor Willcox said.
