Flagstaff Hill Café and Convention Centre Update

Back

Whitsunday Regional Council has now taken possession of Flagstaff Hill Café and Convention Centre and is committed to ensuring the facility remains accessible for events and functions.

Mayor Julie Hall said the previous tenants had suddenly ceased operations which came as a shock to Council as there had been no prior indications of the closure.

“As a result of their closure the former lessees have now surrendered their lease of the café and function area.

“Council is actively working towards securing new operators, but this will take time to ensure a thorough Expressions of Interest (EOI) process is undertaken including an open day for interested operators to inspect the facility,” she said.

“We are committed to ensuring the venue remains accessible for suitable events and functions and Council officers will be facilitating venue hire bookings for both sides of the facility for the interim.

“Essentially this means the facility will be available to host a wide range of events including, Christmas parties, workshops, and other special occasions.

“However, to make these events successful, the event holder will need to arrange external caterers and required liquor licenses, but Council can assist to facilitate.”

Mayor Hall said booking enquiries can be lodged by completing the Flagstaff Hill Venue Hire form located on Council’s website.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and support during this transitional period for Flagstaff as we work towards welcoming you all back soon to such an amazing venue for Bowen.”
